'Baby it's Cold Outside' is a classic Christmas song that remains to be a favorite to many, despite the disturbing lyrics. Perhaps you are still stuck in the mindset that this is just a classic holiday love song but because I'm impossible I have to challenge that idea and prove just what makes this Christmas song so creepy.
First of all, let's really listen to the lyrics. With lines like, "what's in this drink?" it gives off somewhat of a date rape vibe. It's similar to the stomach-churning moment of a twisted Lifetime movie that is about to go very wrong for the poor, naive girl. You just know that this isn't going to end well and the guy is a total creep. And despite the female singer's constant plea to leave, she is only to be shut down by the ever so persistent man that insists it is 'too cold outside'. Typical guy, thinking we are too weak to bare the cold weather.
And just think about how he disregards everything she says. Even when she warns him with, "My father will be pacing the floor." he simply says,"Listen to that fireplace roar." Basically saying, your father doesn't intimidate me and I barely even heard what you were saying. If she isn't seeing red flags all over the room, then he must really have put something in her drink.
And for the record ladies, any guy that says "what's the sense in hurting my pride" is never worth your time. Be sure to run out of there before he tries to convince you to stay, because trust me, he will and like this guy, he will be a little too persistent.
This holiday song can remain a classic that will always have a touch of humor in the words that were probably completely unintentionally sinister. The writer of this song probably didn't foresee people like me over analyzing the lyrics that were too easy to not joke about.
