The time has come and Ed Sheeran is finally back blessing us all with new music. After a year hiatus from social media and the limelight in general Ed returned with the news of his new album and fans were ecstatic. Ed Sheeran's 3rd major album "Divide" is slightly different than the things we have seen from Ed previously. His songs are a bit more upbeat and categorize more as "pop" songs than his previously more folk vibe. Here's a more detailed look into the songs on the album
1. Eraser
Similar to some of his previous songs, such as the song "You Need Me, I Don't Need You". Ed showcase his rap skills in this song as he has in previously has on tracks. Definitely a catchy song, but personally not a favorite of the album. It makes sense for an opening song of the album though. Catchy yet showcases Ed's new sound well.
2. Castle On a Hill
Possibly my favorite on the album. This song was released as one of his first singles off the album back in January. Super catchy song. Plays with your heart strings a bit and definitely plays off the nostalgia factor. A great sing-a-long song.
3. Dive
Another favorite of mine of the album. This song showcases the pure talent of Ed Sheeran's voice. This song reminds me slightly of the song "Thinking out loud" off of Ed's last album. I don't see this song hitting the radio anytime soon, but who knows.
4. Shape of You
Most people have heard this one due to the fact it is all over the radio currently. Catchy, upbeat, and definitely the "star" track from the album.
5. Perfect
For those of you that thought Ed has lost his sweet ballad side of him, fear no more, because this track is just that. The lyrics of this song are enough to make any girl swoon. Ed Sheeran stays killing it in the game of slow dance songs and love.
6. Galway Girl
This song is undeniably catchy and another favorite of mine from the album. Showcases Ed's rap skills once again. This song kind of reminds me of his song "Don't" from his last album but with a little Irish twist to it with the fiddle. Definitely a song to check out.
7. Happier
This song is one that will break your heart just a little bit. Ed Sheeran sure knows how to pull at those heart strings. A lovely slower sad song though, to say the least.
8. New Man
I mean Ed is best friends with Taylor Swift so he's got to have at least one song throwing major shade at an ex, right? Well, here it is. Also, his lyrics about Instagram in this song are crazy relatable and make it clear the Ed is just like all of us and secretly stalks his ex on Instagram. "But still, I'm just keeping it real, still looking at your Instagram and I'll be creeping a little. I'll be trying not to double tap, from way back, cause I know that's where the trouble's at"
9. Hearts Don't Break Around Here
This song is the song that reminds me most of Ed's previous work. Has that same slow and peaceful vibe going on that you find a lot in his previous albums. Really like this one.
10. What Do I Know?
This song is very different from anything really Ed has done before. Very Catchy song to say the least. If you need any clue on just how different this song is, I heard it in public the other day and didn't even recognize that it was an Ed Sheeran song. Enough said.
11. How Would You Feel (Paean)
Another one of Ed's classic love ballads. However what makes this one a little is the guitar solo about 2/3 through the song. Gives off a little bit of a John Mayer vibe. Ed is crazy talented at Guitar though, so I greatly enjoyed the showcase of that talent in this song.
12. Supermarket Flowers
Here's the song on the album that will have you crying by the end of it. Ed Sheeran wrote this song about his Grandmother passing away. Beautiful piano melody, beautiful lyrics, to say the least.
13. Barcelona
Very unlike anything Ed Sheeran has done before. A good dance song for sure. Not a huge fan of this one though, to be honest.
14. Bibia Be Ye Ye
This song reminds me of something Vampire Weekend would have on their album. It's a pretty cool song though, the electric guitar and drums are definitely new but pretty cool and catchy.
15. Nancy Mulligan
I think in terms of storylines this song wins for sure. This song tells the story of how Ed's grandparents met and fell in love. The lyrics are adorable to say the least but the fact that he took a folky Irish route to this song to illustrate their heritage is super cool to me.
16. Save Myself
This song is definitely one of the most personal songs on the album. Ed is really tugging at the emotions on this one, while he sings about needing to save yourself before you attempt to help others. A great song, and a great reminder.
While this album is undeniably different, it is also really great and showcases a lot of Ed's raw talent and love for songwriting. His lyrics are always beautifully written and this album does not fall short of beautifully written lyrics. Check out the album Divide out now! and check out dates for the tour because those have been released as well! Enjoy!
