If someone were to speak ill of you in front of your friend when you were not present at the time, it could result in two ways: either your friend will join that person in bashing you or your friend will defend you when they know that person is in the wrong. The outcome can make or break a friendship. No real friend would go behind your back to expose your own personal matters. Being protective of people you care about a lot comes naturally. No matter how hard life can be, you and your friends should always have each other's backs.
George Clooney did not hesitate to let the media know that he has had enough of the constant and unnecessary scrutiny that his friend, Meghan Markle experiences from day to day. And, he's right: enough is enough. As much as she devotes her time to perform kind acts, the media refuses to stop painting her as a villain. In the words of Clooney, the Duchess of Sussex is "pursued and vilified" like no other. She has yet to catch a break from the negative press since the beginning of her relationship with Prince Harry.
Clooney points out that Princess Diana, the late mother of Prince Harry, experienced the same treatment, which led to her unfortunate death. The media could not let her be as they relentlessly followed her every step and released story after story about her. During an event for his upcoming movie, the actor reminds us, "It's history repeating itself, and we've seen how that ends."
Granted that Markle is in her seventh month of pregnancy, she is being deprived of the peace she deserves as a first-time mom. She does have to deal with a whole lot more in this age of advanced technology. The press can put out articles for the whole world to see in a matter of minutes. One after another will get published just like that. These companies can run stories criticizing the Duchess.
Who can blame Clooney for expressing his frustration with his friend being torn down in the media? Would you not feel the same way if you witnessed your own friend being attacked by the people around you for no good reason?
It is important to know who your real life-long companions are. Not every friend you make will defend your name when you are not there to stick up for yourself. Not only do you need friends that will not turn around and stab you in the back, but you deserve quality friends that want the best for you. You should never have to question where you stand with someone in regards to your friendship. That should be clear, and you should feel comfortable around them.
A true friend sticks by your side and helps you get through the difficult obstacles of life. This type of friend will never make you feel alone or worthless. You will always have someone rooting for you.
