Climate change on earth is already a serious and worsening problem. According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, climate change has already had so many negative effects on our health and the environment. If we don't start caring about global warming, our world will just continue to get worse. One of the many detrimental effects of climate change includes the sea level rise. Antarctica and Greenland are losing around 350 billion tons of ice per year and because of this, sea levels have risen 11.1 millimeters worldwide since 1992. This rate of sea levels rising is alarming and poses serious risks to us in the future. It will impact all coastal areas and low-lying islands may even disappear. As the world population constantly increases, the increase in sea level will cause a major problem because there will be a lot less land for people to live on. This is a major implication to human civilization.
What's the cause of global warming and climate change? Greenhouse gasses. They are created from burning fossil fuels such as coal. They trap heat into earth's atmosphere making the earth hotter. We use these fuels to heat our homes and power our cars. Although more people are becoming aware of global warming and the alternatives to using fossil fuels, there still needs to be more policy change which forces the reduction of using fossil fuels.
Some things you can do to help reduce global warming:
1. Switch to hybrid or electric cars: They emit less carbon dioxide into the air
2. Switch to energy efficient light bulbs
3. Turn off your computer when not in use
4. Avoid using single-use plastics: Switch to using reusable utensils and water bottles
Climate change and global warming is a serious and worsening issue in the world. We can help reduce the detrimental impacts of it by making more people aware of the issue and taking measures to reduce it.
