Clichés That Perfectly Apply To College

How else would we describe our lives?

Clichés That Perfectly Apply To College

A cliché is a phrase that is overused and lacks any original thought. We hear them all the time in motivational speeches, listen to our parents say them to us when life isn't going how we want it to, and we see them on artsy posters all over the place. Some people hate clichés because of how often they are used, whereas other people only speak in clichés.

We can all agree that some of these are annoying. However, there is no doubt that many of them are inspiring, motivating, and extremely relevant to everyday life. Here are some clichés that undoubtedly apply to college life.

Time flies when you're having fun.

At the end of every semester, everyone always talks about how fast the time goes. One day you're unpacking your belongings in your new dorm and before you know it you're taking your last final. We can't believe school goes by so quickly, but at least we know it's because we're having so much fun.

You can't judge a book by its cover.

In college, we are exposed to so much diversity. As humans, our first instinct is to judge whatever seems different. College teaches us the importance of being open-minded and willing to try new things and meet new people. Who knows? Maybe you'll become best friends with your random roommate even though you got a bad first impression from her. Maybe that class seems too hard, but will actually end up being your favorite. Never let initial judgements or stereotypes hold you back from taking a class, making a new friend, or trying something new.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

We always have to make the best of every situation. We may get stuck with a bad lottery number for housing, get shut out of a class we really wanted to take, or not get into our favorite sorority or fraternity. But, we always have to remind ourselves to look on the bright side and take what we get and make the best of it. Everything will work out how it's supposed to in the end.

Laughter is the best medicine.

College is, without a doubt, a very stressful time. We have to surround ourselves not only with good junk food so we can eat our feelings, but also with good people who can make us laugh for hours. Laughter is a foolproof method to making a bad day better.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

In a time dominated by technology and social media, college students today will have the" best time of their lives" very well documented. We take pictures of anything and everything so we can remember all of our favorite memories. There's something so special about getting to capture and look back on our first day of college or our first hug with our best friend.

Can't live with them, can't live without them.

When we leave for our first year of college, we are always so excited for the new independence we are about to experience. We think that we are more mature than we actually are and can't wait to move out of our childhood homes and into a dorm. However, we need our parents more than we think. Whether it is asking them how to use a washing machine or if we can borrow some money, we wouldn't be able to live without our parents.

Work hard play hard.

College students understand that our top priority is to learn and to succeed academically. Nevertheless, we also understand that college is a time for us to explore ourselves, explore the world, and to "play hard". After a long week of classes filled with papers and exams, we know that there is nothing better than good company, a good party, and some good music. We deserve it, after all!

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
