It's getting cold out, and it's time to break out the mugs. We love mugs; they hold our favorite warm beverages and fit nice in the hand. You may you prefer tea or coffee, or maybe you just use your favorite mug as a bowl. I'm here to teach you some ways to make these mugs your own, with new designs or maybe just some fine-detail touches.

All you have to do in order to personalize your mugs is grab some sharpies and either an oven or some mod podge. Yes, that really is all you'll need! There are two ways you could go about making your mugs: design them with sharpies, or paste a picture on them.

Sharpied Mugs:

For these, all you'll have to do is pick a design you like, doodle away, and then bake your mug! Once you've drawn all over your mug, place it into an oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, and then let it cool for a few hours in your oven. Note that these mugs will be handwash-only as well. Here are some ways you can doodle on your mugs:

1. Monogram a solid-color mug.

Monogram is in right now, and for good reason. I mean, who doesn't want their initials over everything they own? Show everyone you know that this mug is yours by monogramming it. You can achieve this by getting a stencil of whatever letters you want and just coloring it in with your sharpie. Bake after you're happy with your sharpie designs, and you're done!

2. Doodle away.

Maybe you're more of an artist and want to draw your own designs for your mug. Go for it! Draw whatever you'd like, then bake it, and you've got your own doodle mug.

3. Put your favorite quote on it.

If you really like quotes, that's great too, because you can put those on your mug! Just pick one, write it, and bake it. Here's my personal favorite quote mug:

4. Touch up an already designed mug.

Let's assume your mugs already have designs; we'll draw some more. Let your imagination flow and add whatever you would like to your mug! Maybe for you this means polka dots or coloring in some things. It's entirely up to your imagination! Once you're finished with your additions, just remember to bake it!

Pasted/Mod Podge Mugs:

These mugs are entirely up to your imagination! You can print any picture you'd like and paste on your mug. In order to do this, you'll just pick and image, apply some mod podge on the back of it, and then stick on your mug. Just to be safe, you'll also want to put some on top and all over the mug and make sure it's completely sealed. Just like our sharpie mugs, these will also be handwash-only.

I hope this got your creativity and imagination flowing. Get out there and design some mugs for yourself or give them as gifts. The possibilities are endless with sharpies and mod podge!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
