The Christmas season has been very kind to the city of Cleveland and their sports teams. Through the bad there has been good. In some circumstances the good remains good as well. This Christmas many prayers have been answered for Cleveland sports fans.
The Browns
The biggest Christmas miracle was the Cleveland Browns winning their first game of the season. They defeated the San Diego Chargers 20-17 despite trying to lose. A blocked field goal and a missed field was just enough to give the Browns the win. With the win, the Browns will surely not join the Detroit Lions as the 2nd team with an 0-16 record in NFL history. Social media was going crazy after the unlikely victory. In addition to this, the San Francisco 49ers won. That means that the Browns are still in line to receive the 1st pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. With one win under the teams belt, a victory next week against the Pittsburgh Steelers would certainly lead the team into the offseason with lots of momentum. The Browns have had a rough season and hopefully this is as bad as they ever get and next season they look like a totally different team.
The Indians
The Cleveland indians were making movies this past week. After their miraculous 2016 postseason, the Indians came within one game of winning the World Series. It was clear that they were one or two pieces away from being winning it all. The indians opened their checkbooks this offseason. They have signed former Blue Jay slugger, Edwin Encarnacion. The deal is reported to be 3 years and 60 million dollars. There is a 4 year team option as well, worth 20 million dollars. This means that the Indians will not be partying at Napoli's, but Encarnacion will surely make an even bigger difference. With Michael Brantley set to return, the indians will yet again be a strong team in the American League and have a good chance at returning to the World Series.
The Cavs
The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Golden State Warriors 109-108 on Christmas Day. Despite their poor shooting, LeBron James and Company managed to find a way to win against their rivals. Kyrie Irving gave the Cavs the go-ahead bucket with about three seconds left in the game. Kevin Durant had a chance to win it, but good defense by Richard Jefferson sealed the victory. The win was downplayed by LeBron, but many fans and players knew the importance of beating the Golden State Warriors. These two teams have a very legitimate shot at playing each other in the Finals yet again. This victory gives the Cavaliers a little bit of momentum moving forward and into the 2nd game they will play the Warriors this season.
