Following the acquisition of Kyle Korver, LeBron James let it be known that team still needs a backup point guard. "We gotta get a point guard. It's my last time saying it we need a point guard," LeBron James said. With Kay Felder and Jordan McRae failing to capitalize on the open role Iman Shumpert has stepped in as the Cavs best option this season. Here are five players that maybe the Cleveland Cavalier's new backup point guard.
1. Mario Chalmers (Free Agent)
The Cavs opened up a roster by trading away Mo Williams in the Korver trade so signing a free agent is now a possibility. Last season Chalmers averaged 10.8 points and 3.8 assists per game for the Memphis Grizzlies before tearing his Achilles March 2016. LeBrons former teammate in Miami has yet to work out for any teams since his injury.
2. Brandon Knight (Phoenix Suns)
Phoenix's roster is loaded with young guards and trading away Knight gives them a chance to play. As the Sun's sixth man this season Knight has been inconsistent and is averaging a career low 12.4 points per game.
3. Rajon Rondo (Chicago Bulls)
Rondo met with Bulls general manager Gar Forman after being benched on Dec. 31. to discuss his role with the team and let him know that he wants to part ways if the Bulls aren't going to play him. They could potentially buy out his contract allowing him to choose his new team or trade him for assets.
4. Quinn Cook ( D-League, Canton Charge)
Cook has played the last two season in the D-League for the Canton Charge who are the Cavaliers official D-League affiliate. In his first season with the Charge, he won the D-League Rookie of the Year averaging 19.6 points and 5.4 assists per game. Cook has upped his scoring average to 25.3 this season as he awaits a call-up to the NBA.
5. Deron Williams (Dallas Mavericks)
With the Dallas Mavericks sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference Mark Cuban should call quits on this season and begin the rebuilding process. Williams a former All-Star is under performing his contract that doesn't expire until 2019 and the Mavericks have to other point guards in Devon Harris and Jose Juan Barea that are capable of starting.
