Spring is finally here! The long winter months are finally over. The snow is finally melted, the parkas are packed away and UGG boots will not be seen again for many months (thank goodness). If you are like me, you are crawling your way through the semester, trying to reach summer. The bright light of spring is just what you needed to help you finish off this semester, and finally make it to the best season of all -- summer.
Growing up, my mother was always obsessed with spring cleaning the house. We would get rid of all the old things we did not use, clean everything and get the house ready for summer. As a college student, I also find it important to do a little spring cleaning, but I do it in all aspects of my life.
First, I take away as many signs of winter as I can. I pack up all but one of my heavy jackets, put away my beanies and hide my scarves. I send as much of these things home as I can, usually when I go home for Easter break. I also start to de-clutter my room of all the papers from class I do not need anymore. I do not consider myself a hoarder, but I do have some hoarding tendencies in my bedroom. Old papers and homework start to pile up in my desk, often from fall semester. But with summer break coming up, moving out all my hoarded junk is going to be a huge pain. So I get rid of all of my things I no longer have any use for.
With the weather getting nicer, its cool to watch people's mood's pick up as well. I personally believe heavily in seasonal depression, and need sunlight in my life in order to feel my best. With warmer weather on the rise, it is refreshing to see happiness in others again. Spring cleaning one's own mind and removing all winter drama is very important. Whatever so and so said about such and such in December does not matter anymore. Let it go.
A new season calls for a new mindset. Spring clean your outside and your inside this season. Clean up what needs to be cleaned up, fix any feuds with any friends and learn to let the small stuff go. Winter is officially over; enjoy the blooming flowers and the warmth of the sun. Spring also means that you're over halfway done with the semester, and summer is in the horizon. Thank goodness.
