I don't know a single person on Long Island who doesn't like the beach. I really dislike when people complain about the pollution and trash and don't do anything to change it!! There were people on tripadvisor.com complaining about the trash on Cedar Beach. To all of my friends that live on Long Island, we are all simply sitting on the beach. Why not get active and start picking up the trash you see blowing by? I didn't even know this bothered me so much..until I went to my local beach this summer and saw a family leave every piece of trash they created behind.

I guess because I am guilty not doing enough to change things sometimes that I feel passionate about this. WE are all responsible for our local beaches. Humans mess them up! No one else. Every year the Coastal Steward has beach clean-ups.These people are so nice and helpful. They make it as easy as possible for you to participate.

There are local clean ups and shellfish restoration projects you can participate in. Please check the schedule at the beginning of the summer season NEXT YEAR so that you can have a clean beach to sit on all summer long! September 17th is International Beach Clean Up Day there are literally hundreds of beaches scheduled for clean-up. Just click on the map to find one near you. There are also tools so you can start your own clean-ups!

PLEASE VOLUNTEER!!!! Get your kids involved. Make it a fun activity and make sure they wear gardening gloves. You will not believe the things that people dispose of on the beach. It might make you cringe but it will certainly make for an interesting conversation!!!

I thought senioritis in high school was rough until I became a college senior about to go into the real world. I'm supposed to have everything figured out, right? I mean I went through four years of tough classes and serious self-searching (and crying). What I found overall was Senioritis sneaking up on me.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
