Unless you live under a rock, you’ve probably begun to notice that a lot of old TV shows are making a comeback. Like, a lot. Netflix has already revived old TV shows by remaking them on its own format, such as the new show “Fuller House” released online two weeks ago, or the revival of the hit television series "The X-Files" on Fox, premiering two months ago. Both prime television networks and other platforms such as Netflix and Hulu are bringing back and reimagining beloved shows. Here’s a list of what to look forward to.
"Hey Arnold!"
The show’s original creator, Craig Bartlett, recently announced on Instagram that Nickelodeon has approved the making of a two hour “Hey Arnold!” movie, 14 years after the show ended. “The Jungle Movie” will be about Arnold and his friends traveling to find out whatever happened to his parents. There's no word on when this will air or what platform it will air on (most likely Nickelodeon), but either way fans should be excited.
"The Powerpuff Girls"
Another popular 90s cartoon, “The Powerpuff Girls” are returning to TV on Cartoon Network. The original series ended in 2005--however, this new series will be similar to the original yet introduce new characters. The series is set to premiere this April. Their new theme song can be found online, as well as short clips from the new show and the new voice actors introducing themselves.
"The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"
In this revival of the classic TV show, Will Smith will serve as an executive producer but keep the same plot line of the original show, which ended in 1996 on NBC. It will most likely be a modern day telling of the "fish out of water" scenario, and there's no word on if Smith will again star in the new reboot. The show is in the extremely early stages of development, but fans have every right to start getting excited.
"Gilmore Girls"
The beloved original show is being recreated on Netflix with almost all the original cast, producers, writers, and directors reprising their roles. It will be divided into four 90 minute episodes following the cast throughout different seasons of the year. Filming began in February and you can expect it on Netflix in the near future.
"Fuller House" Season 2
Days after Season 1 premiered on Netflix, it was announced that the show had been renewed for a second season, with no actual premiere date set. It can be expected that season 2 will be as cheesy as the first season, much like how the entire show is as cheesy and family-oriented as the original series.
