It's the most wonderful time of the year. The birth of Jesus. Mistletoe. Candy canes. Santa Claus. There's so much good stuff going on in the month of December that it's almost overwhelming. Lucky for us, there's holiday movies to keep us entertained during this season! (Side note: obviously there are more classic movies than 11 to watch but these are my favorites to watch every year!)
1. "Die Hard"
Yes, this is a Christmas movie. No, I will not argue about this. The endless debate of "Is 'Die Hard' a Christmas movie?" should end because it is. But don't take my word for it. Watch it and determine that for yourself. Yippee-ki-yay.
2. "Home Alone"
I. Love. This. Movie. Every time it's on TV, I watch it even if it's not Christmas. The story of this kid being left home alone while his family goes on vacation is a classic tale that tells a great message of how important family really is. Just look out for flamethrowers and flying paint cans.
3. "A Charlie Brown Christmas"
I believe this was the first cartoon I remember seeing that explained the true meaning of Christmas and it is still beautiful to this day. Not to mention, I'm still guaranteed several chuckles out of this. If you haven't seen this yet, first of all, stop what you're doing, minimize this article, and go find it and watch it now!
4. "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation"
Arguably the most famous adventure starring the infamous Griswold family, this Christmas classic will have you rolling around on the floor with laughter! Fun fact: Leonard from "The Big Bang Theory" plays Clark Griswold's son in this film!
5. "Elf"
The amount of times I've laughed awkwardly at this comedy is too much. But it's such a great movie.
6. "A Christmas Story"
"You'll shoot your eye out." The triple dog dare. Tongues stuck to poles. Kids saying fudge. Only they didn't say fudge. So many classic moments in this one movie.
7. "The Polar Express"
"The bell still rings for those who believe." I attribute this movie to me believing in Santa til I was 10. Not even lying.
8. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"
Doesn't matter if it's the live-action version or the classic cartoon. Watch at least one version this year!
9. "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town"
Burgermeister Meisterburger. The most evil name in a stop-motion film hands down. But, this isn't the last stop-motion film to be on this list.
10. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"
Obviously this one has to be on here. One of my favorite stop motion films in history and it's a classic that will never die.
11. "It's A Wonderful Life"
The Christmas classic of all Christmas classics. Even more than "Home Alone," this classic puts emphasis on family like no other Christmas film. This ultimate classic is a must-watch this holiday season.
So, no matter what your plans are this holiday, try to make time to sit down and watch some of these with your family! Have a Merry Christmas and happy viewing!
