As a college student it I can tell you that as soon as I come home for summer break, the first thing we want to do is nothing. We’ve been working hard all year, and now that we’re back home all we want to do is sleep and do nothing. We just want to watch Netflix all day and stay in our pajamas. No work, no responsibilities, just pure laziness.
And while I can confidently tell you that is what us college students want, it is not always what we get. Some of us do have to work during summer break because college doesn’t pay for itself, and we have other bills to pay for. Some of us also have to take summer classes because we’re either behind in our major or we want to get ahead and take a class or two over the summer to have lighter loads during the fall or spring.
Speaking for myself, I am in both of these boats. I am working full-time this summer and I am also taking a summer class. This isn’t my first summer working full-time and I like working because 1) money 2) my job is actually in my major and 3) I would honestly be bored all day sitting at home all day every day.
And while most college students complain about taking classes over the summer, I actually don’t mind it that much. I honestly wish I would've taken classes every summer and not just this one. But by taking summer classes I am able to lighten my credit load for my final two semesters. I can also take care of one of my last two gen eds freeing up my schedule for the fall and spring semester to focus on classes in my major. And also, taking classes at my local community college cost much less money than the credits do at my school. Depending what type of session you choose the classes don't even last the whole summer sometimes it is just a month. So if you're a college student who is against the idea of taking classes over the summer, I encourage you to rethink that because taking a class or two can really help you out in later semesters.
