Opportunity Knocks More Frequently On Your Door
And opportunity's name might be Jim, from bowling league.
People have more pull than you realize. Be respectful and kind to important people - before they're important if you can. The trick is, you never know who's going to end up the all powerful, or who already is. So you may as well treat everyone like they are important, just like any true class act would.
e.g. I work at a clothing store. Earlier this summer a guy came into the store and he did NOT look like he fit into the demographic that characterizes our customer base. I thought to myself, 'this guy is definitely not here to actually buy anything'. I was nice to him anyways. After a five-minute conversation, he introduced himself to me as the owner of the company I work for. Did NOT see that one coming.
People Remember You
Whether it's for good reason or bad, I promise people will remember you. As much as some people may like to think that they fly under the radar, nobody does. Some one always notices. True class acts get noticed for good reason.
e.g. I recently got a phone call from my seventh-grade softball coach. He offered me 'either a job or internship', whichever I prefer. He also mentioned it may be a possibility for his company to reimburse education costs if I planned to continue working for the company following college graduation. What that sounds like to me, is that I could potentially already have a job lined up before, during AND after college. And I just graduated from high school not even three months ago. He offered me the opportunities because he remembered me, for good reason.
Assumptions WILL Be Made
When people don't know you well, often times they will take what little they know about you and hypothesize about your true character. Singular statements or actions can be translated into personality descriptors. People will take what they can and try to piece together the big picture.
e.g. The penalty at my school for attending a party (merely being in the location where people are partying) and for partying (turning up, if you will) was the same. I guess they figured where there's smoke there's fire.
Let Me Summarize For You
In the moment that you are making a choice, whether it be a decision about how to act, what to say, how to present yourself, where to go, or how to treat someone: you are compiling a physical representation of your character. With each decision you make, you impact your moral compass. A decision builds your stance on a subject one way or the other, whether you realize it or not. That's when you shed light on who you are and what you stand for, often without even realizing it. So stay classy, my friends. It will pay off.
