An unjustly jurisdiction was sentenced once again this past week. If your not sure on what I'm talking about. The city of St.Louis has been rioting all weekend because of the verdict of Jason Stockley.
Anthony Lamar was a twenty four year old black man that died in St.Louis on December 20, 2011 according to Time.com. Anthony was shot by former police officer Jason Stockley. On September 15th, 2017 the judge ruled that Stockley was found not guilty, and the shooting was self defense.
Anthony Lamar was fatally shot following a high speed chase. It was mentioned that Lamar had illegal substance on him and was a drug dealer. Lamar has a past criminal history, so we all know that was mentioned in the news report. It was reported to have found a weapon on Lamar, but many say the gun was planted by police.
There is also a recording of Stockley saying he's going to kill Lamar. Stockley denies that claim though, in a recent interview. Once the verdict was decided by the judge, and not a jury by the way, the city went wild. At first the protesters were peaceful until the evening came. People were destroying the mayors home, police cars, local business and more.
I understand the reason for the people's anger. This has happened since the beginning of time. A white officer shoots a black man, and he's let off the hook. Do you know why the police officer is let off the hook? The government is protecting them.
By law if a police officer says "I felt threatened" he is automatically innocent, or if the officer said "I saw him reaching" he will also be let off the hook. Police officers use their power to their advantage and that is not right. A officer is not God and cannot determine the fate of someone.
People often say Lamar should not have ran, but what about Philando Castile or Trayvon Martin who didn't run, but are now dead, an their murderers were let off. What's the next excuse for them? We are living in an unjust world and it's sickening to see so many young black souls die.
