He sat across from her.
Girls all around flirted with him.
Guys around her yearned for her attention.
The two exchanged glances and polite small talk,
But both wanted each other to say something more sincere.
He used most everything that she brought with her.
Not ungrateful, but in the most innocent way.
He wrapped himself in her blankets
and laughed with his friends.
He waited for her glances to reassure him of his next steps.
She sat back in the chair,
Aware that he was watching her, and looked up into the sky.
She smiled slightly hinting her approval of the earth’s weather.
She turned back to her friends and spoke so freely.
She watched him, his confidence, to fill her insecurities.
They walked around each other,
Pausing for short conversations about sunscreen and the importance of SPF.
Everyone else saw them and their affection for each other,
Except for them.
They would chuckle when the group laughed and smile when someone made a joke,
But never as passionately as they did with each other.
