As Halloween approaches, it’s time to get in the spirit by drinking pumpkin spice lattes and carving pumpkins. One of the most important parts of Halloween preparation though is watching scary movies. Personally I’m not a fan of the traditional gory and bloody slasher favorites. I would much rather take a walk down memory lane and watch some old classics, so here is a list of 10 nostalgic movies to get you in the Halloween spirit.
1. "Halloweentown" Series
Nothing says childhood like the "Halloweentown" series. It isn’t too scary, it actually has a great plot, and there’s tons of girl power. Plus, it’s Halloween every day. What’s not to like?
2. "Hocus Pocus"
The one "scary" movie I will never get sick of.
3. "Casper"
He’s cute and friendly. It’s a great movie if you aren’t a fan of scary Halloween movies.
4. "Halloween"
The horror classic that started them all, it’s probably the scariest on this list.
5. "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
A cult favorite that is best viewed with a large crowd of enthusiastic fans.
6. "Ghostbusters"
Billy Murray and a giant marshmallow man—somehow we all fell in love.
7. "A Nightmare on Elm Street"
Two words: Johnny Depp.
8. "Psycho"
Still a classic and still scary.
9. "The Addams Family"
Scary or not, "The Addams Family" is all that Halloween represents.
10. "Haunted Mansion"
It’s funny, it terrified you when you were young, and it’s Disney.
So grab a friend, cuddle up, and be prepared to be nostalgic and maybe a little scared. Happy watching!
