The first threatening snowflake is about to fall, the result of the dropping temperatures hitting most of America - including Hawaii - which means it's finally the holiday season!
I love this season, however I do not like Christmas. It's one day that goes by too quickly, which leaves everyone involved, over-stuffed, slightly annoyed by family and Christmas music, and a little depressed because presents have been opened resulting in a height of euphoria that crashed after the turkey was consumed. Christmas day is basically Thanksgiving 2.0, just with the addition of presents and waking up too early just to unwrap those presents that were painstakingly wrapped the night before. What is even the point of wrapping if you get up that early?! But I digress.
I love the holiday season; from the week before Thanksgiving to the 24th of December. With all the politics that flood our News feed in November, it's time to just sit back and indulge ourselves with food, drinks, and music. I love decorating my house, wearing red, gold, and green, but most of all singing and dancing to the same repetitive song. Driving by houses and trying not to crash into fences or other cars, while trying to stare at all the pretty lights that are hung everywhere! There's a house on my way to work that does a lot of flashes of light and it's so pretty! It's truly a great month!
I find that during this season, regardless of what has happened in the last few months, this is the time that everything negative seems to disappear. We all know that it doesn't completely, but for once we're all just one dysfunctional family trying to pretend for a month that things are happy. Unless you're my co-worker who strives to be a Scrooge and ruin everything if you let him. Not today, Paul, not today! I become enveloped with happiness to the verge of being the annoying happy person I usually avoid all year.
This year I am not going home, so I'm trying to make it as festive as possible. I bought my cats an elf costume and I've attempted to put them in it. Unfortunately, and as expected, it did not go well. However, I now use it as a "punishment" when they try to knock over my Christmas tree ornaments. They've learned quickly.
As well, here are a few of my favorite Christmas songs that I always listen to during the holiday season (mostly on repeat):
White Christmas - Irving Berlin & Bing Crosby
Carol of the Bells - John Williams
Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee
Merry Christmas Darling - The Carpenters
Cold December Night - Michael Buble
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
 The Christmas Song
It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
Winter Song - The Head and the Heart
 Baby, It's Cold Outside
 Little Drummer Boy - Pentatonix
The Man With The Bag - Jessie J
 Silent Night - Lady Antebellum
 O Holy Night
