Christmas Eve. Not only is this night the most exciting night for those who celebrate it but it's the only time in the entire year that the classic holiday movie, "A Christmas Story" is aired on television for a full 24 hours. Every year the movie is on television as the feature film of a family event, background noise for dinner, or simply just to watch for enjoyment.
The classic Christmas movie was filmed in 1983 and captures the events of Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley) throughout the time from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Fans can tell you their favorite scenes and recite the lines and act out the scenes, but here are the top rankings (in no particular order) of the best, most favorite, and well-known scenes of "A Christmas Story".
1. The 'fra-jeelay' infamous leg lamp
Ralpie's father won a prize and has no idea what he won, but as anyone would be, he is very excited to see what he got. As he receives the prize he pronounces the word "fragile" as "fra-jee-lay" not knowing the word is actually pronounced "fragile."
2. "I can't put my arms down!"
When there's about a foot of snow on the ground and it's freezing outside, any mother will dress their child all bundled up to stay warm while they walk to school. Ralphie's mother bundles Ralphie's younger brother, Randy, so tight that he cannot put his arms down.
2.5. Following the layers and layers of winter clothing on Randy, when Randy can't get up from being pushed on the ground is an instant laughter-provoking scene.
3. "I tripledog dare you."
If someone triple dared you to do something, you could still get out of it. But if you were triple dog dared, you're screwed. And that's exactly what Schwartz did to make Flick stick his tongue to the ice cold flag pole making it stick.
4. Fudge
We all know what 'fudge' really means and we all remember our first time saying the F-word.
5. Santa Claus
The Santa Clauses at malls can be really scary. The one Ralphie and Randy go to gave a few people nightmares and his voice resonates in the back of people's minds, "HO... HO... HO."
6. Aunt Clara's gift (the bunny onesie)
Oh the classic girly, bunny onesie costume. So cute for a girl, but not so much for a boy.
7. And the classic shooting of the eye
Throughout the entire film, Ralphie has been wanting an official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot range model air rifle. But everyone's response to hearing that was always, "But you'll shoot your eye out." To Ralphie's greatest surprise, his father gets him the bb gun. And what happens when he shoots it? He 'shoots his eye out.'
If you haven't seen this favorite and classic holiday film, you have to! But you'll have to wait for the 24-hour marathon on Christmas Eve! Happy holidays!
