Christmas Season To-Do List

BuyBe Presents

Enjoy this Christmas season by making time for family, catching up with old friends, or bringing your children to a place you cherished when you were their age. Show them that the Christmas spirit doesn’t fade as you become an adult. Believe with them and pay attention to the people around you for you never know when it will be your last, and soon will come the first without.

WrapGiftsSomeone in a Hug

Young children today are, no pun intended, so wrapped up in the world they live in that they don't know what the meaning is. How many Instagram likes and followers to I have? What did this person get? What did this celebrity do? Don’t let them be like that, and yes so much easier said than done but teach them compassion and the significance of their being. Show them that one hug, a dollar to those bell ringing Salvation Army me, or just a quick smile to the person crossing the street, makes a difference.

SendGiftsPeace

Christmas has become so materialistic in today’s day that all they worry about are the most expensive gifts in the store and what everyone else is getting. Santa gives children high priced toys and electronics at one house and a jacket at another. Each present has the same significance because you don’t know what other people are going through, and maybe that jacket is all they got. So, parents, give your children a meaningful gift from Santa and the most expensive ones from you. Show your children that Christmas and the gift of giving is not about the price tag.

Shop forDonate Food and Toys

Give back. We are fortunate enough to probably be reading this on a computer, tablet or phone, while some people around us struggle to make ends meet. Some Americans, can’t make a big fancy Christmas dinner and buy gifts for their children but you can. You can go to the $5 store and get small gifts and donate because believe me, no one ever thought $5 would make such a difference. Those canned goods at the grocery store on sale? Grab a few extra and find a local shelter, you might just allow someone to eat on Christmas.

MakeCookiesLove

Be humble and kind to those you love, those you do not know and everyone in between. Christmas is a time for reconciliation and celebration. Celebrate life, and be grateful to have what you do. Spend time with your family, go the extra step for a friend and be generous. You don’t show the love you have for people by the price tag on the gifts; show your love by the actions taken and the joy it brings.

SeeBe the Lights

Be the person that everyone aspires to be like. Show that these simple tasks that we must remind others of, though some may go unnoticed, should be practiced by them too. Teach others the importance of appreciation and gratitude. Believe that Christmas can be a time to give and not receive and that time given, is time well spent. Thrive to be the light in the eyes of loved ones and strangers, not only during Christmas but all year around.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
