Christmas Non-Traditions

It's Christmas, tailored for our life.

I love Christmas, yes, I'm lame, no I don't care what you think. The Mariah Carey Christmas albums, the ugly Christmas sweaters, the snow that's still magical instead of annoying. I feel happy when it's the holidays, and to make it even more special I've realized that I have some traditions that make this holiday irreplacable.

1. Ornaments that mean something

I have the tiniest tree ever, I'm fine with it. Each ornament on my tree means something. I have a graduation tassel, my first house as a gingerbread house with the year, an ornament that says dog with the "o" keeping a picture of my havanese. I have a santa riding a soccer ball and a horse that my aunt gave me when I asked for a pony when I was 8. They all mean so much.

2. Rap music and sugar cookies.

My husband is country, like, nature loving, hunting crazed, doesn't need to see people for months on end, country. I'm more of the "from the country" , but I love a good rap station on pandora. We both love sugar, therefore our first Xmas we made sugar cookies while blaring 2 chainz in our kitchen, and I'm never going back. It's so quirky and It's perfect, we're not normal, so why would our traditions be that way.

3. We do less.

I have a tree that comes out of a box that's the size of a toddler, that's it. We have 3 stockings that I command hook up to a wall and some lights that I put around our living room window. All our decoration fit in 2 totes, and it makes my life easy. That overdone stuff is great for people that love it, but that's not me, I'm not going to be on their level, though I would visit and compliment the hell out of your commitment to the season.

4. Christmas is a 5 day event.

We have 3-7 xmas's on any given year. That's a lot. Bring it on. I love cocktails and candy and what season brings that out like Christmas will. I also go to an EXCESSIVE amount of church service but hey, that's the "reason for the season" and all. I love that there are people and presents and togetherness, the more the merrier. I also love road-tripping with my husband, he's trapped into long in-depth conversations with me, which is my favorite pass time.

5. Not caring one BIT about my diet.

Why you gonna torture yourself like that. eat the damn cake, stuff your face with the homemade mac and cheese and have another whiskey. diets are important and can have such a great effect on your longterm health, but you know what has a good impact on my mental health. Eating snack and candy with all the rowdy people that make up my family.

Cheers yall and happy Christmas.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
