'Tis not the season.

A small percentage of people started listening to Christmas music the day after Halloween. Two months out from Christmas. While a majority of people think those select people are crazy, most people begin to listen to Christmas music by the time Thanksgiving has rolled around, basically completely skipping over this holiday.

From here, we are left with the people who debate whether to start listening to them the day after Thanksgiving or the first day of December. I am proud to say that I fall on the latter end of this debate.

I believe that the spirit of Christmas should be consolidated into the month of December. Christmas season is one of my favorite seasons of the year, and the Christmas music I listen to is a huge factor in this. The music truly gets me in the spirit and makes me feel warm and joyful throughout the cold month that is December.

That being said, as much as I adore Christmas music, I am not quite ready after Thanksgiving. The month of November is not associated with the spirit of Christmas in my mind, but the spirit of Thanksgiving. While the two are both amazing holidays that call everyone to be thankful and joyful, it isn't right to skip right over one.

I continue to listen to Christmas music throughout the whole month of December, and in the same way, I will enjoy the spirit of Thanksgiving for the entire month of November, even after the holiday has taken place.

I have several friends that begin to listen to Christmas music right after Thanksgiving, and they are all tired of the songs by the actual week of Christmas (a time when "Go Tell It On The Mountain" by The Pentatonix should be on full blast). I refuse to water down my beloved Christmas songs by listening to them too early.

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
