Christmas Movies To Watch This Season

On Christmas Day, after we’re finished opening presents and eating a hearty meal, my family and I will put on a movie and watch it together. This list will hopefully give you some ideas on movies you can watch with the people you care about the most this holiday season.

1. The Christmas Story (1983)

This movie is an undeniable classic that I really don’t even need to explain. If by chance you haven’t seen it, TV channels like TBS and ABC Family often play this movie nonstop for the full 24 hours of Christmas Day, making it easy to catch a showing at any time.

2. Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

This live action version brings to live the animated Dr. Suess classic. Perfect for any family or friend get-together this holiday season.

3. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Is this a Halloween or Christmas movie? How about both? It’s something a little different to watch this Christmas.

4. Christmas with the Kranks (2004)

This movie highlights the importance of family during the heavily commercialized holiday season. The journey to the plot peak is full of comedic moments that make it a perfect choice if you want a light movie.

5. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

Another classic that should be on everyone’s “To Watch” lists, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is seemingly the predecessor for Christmas with the Kranks in hilarity and a heartwarming ending.

6. Elf (2003)

This is one of the few Christmas movies that can be watched year round. Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf is oddly charming, and a great choice for kids to watch on Christmas.

7. The Holiday (2006)

If you’re looking for something a little more romantic, look no further than The Holiday. Like every other romantic comedy, it’s a little predictable, but isn’t that what you’re looking for in a romantic comedy?

8. The Polar Express (2004)

Not quite considered a classic yet, but a fantastic movie nevertheless. The Polar Express combines adventure with a little magic to create the perfect family friendly movie for the holidays.

9. Jingle All the Way (1996)

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as a real life Turbo-Man, a toy that is flying off the shelves in this Christmas tale. If you want adventure this Christmas, check out Jingle All the Way.

10. Home Alone (1990)

A Christmas movie list would not be complete without Home Alone. Better yet, make it a marathon with the four sequels.

Hopefully this quick list of Christmas movies has allowed you to rediscover some favorites and inspired you to check out some new ones. The best part about the holiday season is coming together with friends and family, and what better way to celebrate that than by watching a movie?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
