There is purpose in this season.

If you are like anyone in 2020, you've definitely had it rough.

2020 has not been the kindest year. I've written about anxiety that I haven't experienced before, as well as new fears as a college student.

It's been hard. I'm not going to sugarcoat it.

There have been so many things that consume us. Although so many things are uncertain, I'll choose to count my blessings.

1. All of my family are safe and healthy.

I am so blessed to be able to write this. I know that there are so many more people who aren't able to write this and are having to figure out how to celebrate amidst loss. I am so thankful that my loved ones are still here with me. Throughout the pandemic, I've learned more than ever that it is prudent to not take my loved ones for granted and to savor any time that I am able to spend with them.

2. I have friends and a community of people who care about me.

If you've seen some of my previous articles, you'll know that isolation has been extremely hard for me this year. It's been hard for me to find my community of people I can love. Yet, even within all of the craziness, I found them. I have wonderful people I can call on a moments notice if I need to vent or cry, or even if I need to talk them a new mom joke I made up for a sympathy laugh. I'm so thankful for each and every one of them.

3. I passed my first semester of college (during a worldwide pandemic, might I add) and now I get a long, much needed break with my family.

This one doesn't need much explaining.

4. I'm still making memories.

If you're not the type of person to think of way-in-the-future type of thoughts, then you might relate to this. I am making memories! I think about this all of the time. I am going to be able to tell my kids stories of the 2020 pandemic and help them appreciate (hopefully) everything that they have. I'll help them see the beauty in the struggle. They'll listen to my stories (and trust me, I have a lot of them) and see how a terrible time for us became a wonderful blessing of life and love.

I want all of you to think about things to be grateful for today.

In the midst of all of the stress, confusion, and pain, I know it's easy to focus on the negative. I can guarantee that if we shift our focus from the negative to things we can be grateful for, our quality of life will be so much better.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
