Christmas is a happy time of year. All of the bright red and green colors, the family gatherings, the smell in the air, and the music around us. These are some reasons why Christmas is the best holiday, but certainly not all of the reasons.

Christmas brings family together

One of favorite things about Christmas is that everyone comes together to celebrate and spend time together. Spending holidays without your family just wouldn’t be the same. Decorating the house for Christmas and gathering around the tree Christmas morning is an important tradition in my family that I love and enjoy.

It's a season of giving

Christmas is a time of giving, but not always giving materialistic things. It’s about giving your time to your parents and helping more than you usually do, being kind, helping others, and giving to those who are less fortunate than yourself. Although it's nice to receive gifts, it’s even more rewarding giving gifts that can’t always be wrapped.

Beautifully decorated houses inside and out

I don’t know about you, but Christmas decorations are my cup of tea. I get excited every year when the malls are decorated, when I start seeing lights on houses, and when the Christmas trees come out. Decorations really make you feel in the spirit of Christmas.

The smell of cinnamon/evergreen

I know when Christmas rolls around, I can identify a simple smell that just smells like Christmas. I know I’m not the only crazy one. Christmas has a distinct smell, there is no doubt. And the best way I can put it is cinnamon-like, mixed with evergreen.

Christmas cookies and treats

Holidays are filled with delicious foods. On Christmas, you have the ham and you have the famous Christmas cookies, as well as the chocolate and peppermint treats and anything more that your family’s tradition is. It’s fun making these Christmas foods, because you usually only get to have these kinds of sweets around Christmas, which makes them special.

The 24/7 Christmas music

Some people may get sick of it and think that the day after Thanksgiving is a bit early… I, however, love the day after Thanksgiving for this specific reason. Hearing Christmas music gets me excited for the upcoming Christmas season ahead. Plus, traditional Christmas music makes me feel nostalgic because I’ve been hearing it for twenty some years, and I still love it.

The Christmas movies

Christmas movies are a big part of the Christmas season. Whether it's the old time Christmas movies, or the 25 days of Christmas movies special, you can pretty much find a Christmas movie on any channel in December and that makes so many people happy, including myself.

Christmas gives me a sense of peace and love. It reminds that spending time with the people I love is most important, it reminds to never take for granted what I have in my life and who I have in my life, and that there are so many things to appreciate. After all, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
