Christmas is Commercialized
Christmas. The holiday that slowly started to become more than spending time with family and friends, and more about what you’d get out of it. Most people don’t appreciate the real meaning of being with family, regardless of religious beliefs.
A few days ago, I heard the most heartbreaking thing, a child whining because their parent told them that they couldn’t open their presents, not until Christmas day. That child went on and on about how, ‘Christmas is all about the presents and gifts.’ What that child doesn’t understand is that there is so much more to Christmas than what you get; it’s what you give.
Work Christmas parties is something employees most likely only go to for the free food and drinks. I understand you make not like some of you co-workers, but having a job and boss that genuinely care enough about you and your fellow staff members to have a holiday party with catered food is something you should be thankful for.
Christmas is all about children, as well. It’s become such a big money pool. It’s not even for adults anymore. Sadly, it has become more like a competition. Like, who can spend the most money on gifts, or who can receive the most gifts.
When most children get a gift they don’t like, they act ungrateful for the gift that they didn’t even need in the first place. My one hope is that they'll grow up to realize that it’s the thought that counts. They should be thankful that someone even thought of them, because they didn't have to get them a gift.
Most people don’t even get to go home for Christmas. I’m sure they wanted that nice pair of jeans or new boots, but the number one thing on their Christmas list would be to go home and be with family. Around the holidays it’s always important to remember to give thanks to the ones surrounding and supporting you.
