The Christmas I Finally Cried
Morgan O'Neill

2016, the year of realization- and transitioning into a new chapter of my life.

So much occurred throughout this year- things I learned about life, shit, even things I learned about myself.

From an eventful senior year in high school- Senior Prom, Senior Trip, and adventures everywhere with friends- to the flights to Florida, working a fitness convention, and visiting my dream college.

So much has happened, changed and occurred since I graduated.

Even before graduating- Prom with my best friend. It was so much fun- from getting ready and taking pictures to the event itself. Dancing the night away and sleepovers. Plus our trips to the dollar store.

We have had so many adventures before and after prom to this day. Even the rides home from our long days are fun. I wouldn't trade them for the world. Thanks for always being there- regardless of whatever happens or occurs.

My senior trip- To Florida on my own without my dad or family. Finally going to Disney and having a blast. I made some new friends and grew closer to a few others.

My last few days in high school- Were rough. Cutting ties for the better or worse. To make anew, to resolve problems, and to leave things where they may. There are risks and sacrifices we have to make. Sometimes they may rekindle themselves as well in the future- but that's for fate to decide.

Graduation Day- Preparing with my best friend to look great, and make sure I don't trip while walking across the stage. Looking back, I mainly talk to like 10 people at most since I graduated. It's crazy seeing that everyone's lives are different and the paths they've chosen are unique as well.

Summer 2016- One of the ones I will never forget. Working an amazing job and getting a promotion to management. Plus meeting some great people along the way this summer. I've learned a lot from each of the people who crossed my path during the summer. Learning about the industry. plus learning more about myself and what I'm capable of doing if I set my mind to it.

Now looking back on my September-November adventures, I got to rekindle doing something that I loved to do. My family and I now go rollerskating all the time. I love all our inside jokes too.(SK8R H8R's lol.) To spending a whole week in Florida with my dad to see the many opportunities that life has to offer.

To working and earning things on my own- everyday invites me to learn something new. I'n happy to lead into what happened this past Christmas.

My dad gave me a gift that had me at a loss for words. It had me in tears within the first 5 minutes: a video compilation of growing up. There are so many memories and so many times that we take for granted and seeing these made my heart melt. I'm so thankful for my family. This was such a huge surprise and I couldn't be happier to be guided by a great role model in my life.

Here's to 2016- winding down to an end, and welcoming 2017 with an open mind and good vibes for a great year full of adventure & opportunities.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
