1. Decorating the Christmas tree

What’s Christmas without decorating the Christmas tree? Some years, we will go to the tree farm and cut down a live tree and other years we just use our fake tree. Either way, my favorite part is decorating it. My sister, mom and I always decorate the tree together. We decorate it differently every year. The best part is getting the look through our old ornaments that we made as children.

2. Decorating Cookies

Every year since we were little children, all of my cousins decorate cookies for Santa together. My aunt always prepares just about every color of icing and many shapes of cookies. As we have gotten older we have still continued this tradition and now we get to carry it on to our younger cousins who enjoy it just as much as I still do.

3. Christmas Eve Service

Every Christmas Eve, my family attends my churches Christmas Eve service this is a very special service. They preach about the birth of Jesus and at the end of the service we always go down each row lighting each other’s candles and sing silent night. It is a beautiful service and it is my favorite Christmas Eve tradition.

4. Christmas Breakfast

After opening presents and cleaning up, my family comes over. My sister and I get to show off what Santa brought us and then we enjoy the breakfast that my parents make. My dad always makes his breakfast casserole during this time. Then, we later go to my grandparent’s house for lunch.

5. Reading the Bible

Every year my family gathers in the living room and my dad will read the story of Jesus’ birth out of the bible before going to bed. There has not been a year that we have skipped out on this. It is a great reminder of what Christmas is truly about. This is a tradition I plan to carry out with my children one day.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
