For some reason, the Christmas season to radio stations, stores, television, and most people around the world, starts on Black Friday and ends on December 26.
Well sorry to burst your bubble, but this mentally is...wrong!
If this is what Christmas means to most of the world, then what has Christmas become? Is it just a time for presents and food? Is it just a time for big sales and stores to make most of their money? Is it just an excuse to see your family?
Well technically speaking, Catholics celebrate Christmas to remember the sacred birth of Jesus Christ. However, sadly, it really has become something so much more complicated than that. In my opinion, Santa Claus has become the main focus, and getting our Christmas shopping done on time is much more important than lighting our Advent candles.
Don't get me wrong, I am 100 percent guilty of it as well. Nowadays, it really is hard to get past this mentally. The weeks before Christmas do get stressful and they do get a little out of line. Not only is there stress about Christmas itself, but most college students and even high school students have exams and papers to study for before they get to celebrate this wonderful time.
So if you can't really focus on the beauty of the holiday beforehand, what makes you think you can't keep celebrating after the fact?
According to the Liturgical calendar, Advent (the time leading up to Christmas) lasts for four weeks. Therefore, the season of Christmas starts on December 25th and lasts until January 6th.
Since the time before Christmas is little hectic, know that you have all that time after Christmas day to celebrate!! Most people forget how long the season really is, but this year try to keep it in mind, and I guarantee you won't feel as bad about how busy you were leading up to Christmas Day!
