7 Ways To Get Your College Dorm In The Christmas Spirit

In This Article:

Ah, December. Everyone's favorite holiday that is the biggest spending and stressful time of the year. Now as college students, we have our own calendar and forget that time passes. We also are short on cash and on a budget after paying for books, school, bills and etc. However, that doesn't mean you can't get festive with the holidays. Here are some ways to get your dorm or apartment into the holiday spirit this year.

1. Get a small Christmas tree

Giphy

You don't have to get a full-size pine tree. There are trees that are synthetic and in different colors. A shiny silver tree in the corner of your apartment will make the holidays official.

2. Get Christmas lights for your room

Giphy

Go all out. Have some gold, multi-colored, silver to make your room look festive. It will give your space some lighting and you can keep them up all year round.

3. Have a wreath for your door

Giphy

You can get this at dollar tree and hang it on the outside of your dorm or apartment. You can decorate it with every kind of tinsel and ribbon to make it personal.

4. Get some holiday scents

Giphy

Bath and Body Works is home to holiday scents. Their wallflowers will have your room smelling like peppermint and gingerbread. And the candles, THE CANDLES!!! The holiday deals on candles are endless.

5. Do Secret Santa with your roommates

Giphy

You don't have to break the bank on presents. You can find some cheap but cute gifts at CVS, Walmart, even Target. Get them a personalized lettered mug, a new planner, gift cards to Starbucks or Chick-fila. Anything from the thought counts.

6. Have A Netflix Christmas movie marathon

Giphy

Netflix has the classics and the new classic that they produce and put out. Brew some hot chocolate and spend December 1st-25th watching a Christmas movie or two per day.

7. Enjoy the snow

Giphy

December is the prime time for snow storms. Enjoy your day off from classes getting canceled and go have fun. You probably don't have snow where you live but you probably have a mall or theme park where they have a Santa's North Pole where you can play in the fake snow.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
