If you're a Christmas enthusiast like I am, you've probably been thinking about tinsel and gingerbread since Halloween. However, this year, I have refrained from premature festivities because my roommate is a thanksgiving enthusiast. Now that it is officially the holiday season, here are some ideas for decorating your dorm room or apartment.

Candy Canes:

This idea is pretty weird, but I took a box of candy canes and hung them up in my dorm room in random places. (Above my mirror, on my cork board, on the window blinds, etc)

It's kind of unconventional and fun!

Small Christmas tree:

I brought a two foot tall Christmas tree with me from home that fits on top of our mini fridge. This is a great way to make your dorm room feel like home.

Tinsel tinsel tinsel:

Tinsel around door frames, tinsel around your mirror, tinsel everywhere. You can't have too much tinsel!

Large Christmas tree:

Our whole floor decorated a large tree together to keep in the common area. It makes the floor feel very welcoming and happy.

Stockings:

On the kitchen counter by our community Christmas tree, our RA put mini stockings with our names on them. This also added to the homey feel.

Snowflakes:

(Confession: I have been cutting out paper snowflakes for weeks now.)
Before Thanksgiving I delivered some of them to friends and taped them to their windows for them. These are a great idea because they're strictly winter. You can leave them up for a lot longer!

Christmas countdown:

A countdown to Christmas is a fun way to get super excited for the holidays. You could write it on a whiteboard, your mirror, or get super creative with a big advent calendar.

Self Decorating:

I am going to wear ugly Christmas sweaters and Santa hats to class everyday for the next few weeks with no shame. I even made a few new friends because of my hat!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
