How To Celebrate Christmas In Your Dorm Room

It's A LOT easier than you think

Celebrating Christmas in college may seem to be a little bit difficult. I mean for most colleges you are only there for about two weeks of the "Christmas Season." This coming "season" will be my second one while in college, and I think I have some tricks up my sleeve now. I'll let you in on some of my tricks below.

1. Twinkle (or Christmas) lights

Some people (like me and my roommate) decide to keep these up all year round, but they most definitely add some Christmas cheer to the room. Especially if you put up the colorful ones! We decided to hang the colorful lights around our closets and door and it just adds the perfect touch to our Christmas touch.

2. Little trinkets from home

After Thanksgiving break both my roommate and myself brought back one little thing from home that we thought would add a nice little touch to our room. I brought back one of my favorite little houses from my mom's little Christmas village collection, and my roommate brought back a little glass church from her grandmom.

3. Winter themed bedding

Nothing is better than curling up to watch a Christmas movie with a cup of hot chocolate and a warm reindeer blanket. Bedding can include a comforter, a throw blanket, pillowcase, or even a throw pillow. Even the smallest thing adds a Christmas touch.

4. Decorate the hallway area around your door

One way to spread holiday cheer to those around you who may not ever step foot into your room is to decorate outside your room! We have a countdown to Christmas and a cute little sign that says "Santa Stop Here." If you don't want to do much then you could even just hang a reef or a sign on your door. This is a fun way to help get others in the Christmas spirit.

5. Christmas Tree!!!

This is my favorite part of our Christmas decorations. A Christmas tree is the ultimate Christmas decoration! We got ours from Target, along with the ornaments. My favorite part of our Christmas tree is the sock monkey on top! It's our version of an angel on top.

So if you are having trouble figuring out how to decorate your little dorm room for Christmas just take these points and spin them to make them your own!

And just another thing that I think makes celebrating Christmas in college better is waiting until after Christmas break to celebrate with your college friends. This way you have more time to figure out gifts, and you get to celebrate Christmas a little bit longer (which I just love because I LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas!!)

P.S. One thing I LOVE doing is getting a Christmassy scent to put in our air freshener, and it just makes everything sososo much better!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
