Halloween is over and the holiday season is in full swing! Groan if you must about how we're celebrating too soon, but now is the best time to prepare your gifts. For a broke college student, however, this can be an especially stressful time of year. It's always a little awkward to receive gifts from others when you can't afford to return the favor. But have no fear! There are plenty of gifts you can put together with supplies you probably already have. No supplies for these projects? No money for supplies? Gather up some old clothing and and take them to your local consignment shop. This should give you just enough cash for these super cheap and easy gift ideas.
Scarves/Gloves/Hats-
If you already have the supplies, knit or crocheted items are always a great gift. It's important to keep in mind, however, that not all yarn is cheap. Sometimes it's less expensive to buy an already made scarf/hat. If you don't have the supplies, it might be best to skip this gift.
Homemade Coupons-
Coupons for cleaning services and errands are a super thoughtful gift that's 100% free. This would especially be a great gift for older family and friends that have trouble doing cleaning, shopping or yard work on their own.
Baked Goods-
Get in the kitchen and start cookin'! Everyone loves desserts, and chances are that you can find ingredients in your home already!
Design a mug-
You can easily find a plan white mug for super cheap. I found one at a local craft store for only a dollar! Grab some oil based markers, decorate your mugs, then bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
Photo coasters-
All you need is Mod Podge, some cheap tile from the hardware store, and some printed pictures. Add a layer of Mod Podge to your tiles, add your picture and let dry. Once it's dry, add another layer of Mod Podge to seal.
Remember, you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to make the holiday season special. With a little creativity, you can come up with a plethora of other budget-friendly gifts for the holidays. Even if you're not crafty, the best thing you can do is spend time with your loved ones and let them know how much you care for them. Call your grandmother just to see how she's feeling. When visiting your parents at home, offer to help with chores. I guarantee your loved ones will appreciate those little things more than anything you could ever find in a store.
