A Heartfelt Letter To Those Who Start Christmas in November

Dear People Who Are Already in the Christmas spirit:

Please stop, it's not December yet. My best friend is among the perpetrators so I must deal with this madness every year. You would think it was enough that we spend a whole month devoted to a single holiday. It should be enough that Christmas has become an over-inflated, commercialized month long extravaganza. But it's not enough for you.

Already the displays at the store have come up, already you're starting to sing Christmas songs and choose just the right Christmas movies to watch. It's not just because I think Thanksgiving is the best holiday of the year and should be getting its due (though it is and it should), it's that two months for one holiday is too much.

We have 25 days devoted to Christmas (and let's face it you're not really over Christmas for the fortnight following), isn't that enough for you? Okay a little of it is that I love Thanksgiving. And I get it all we focus on is people and food. There aren't any cheesy songs, movies, or gimmicky decorations. Mostly it's just the essentials.

So okay I understand you love all that stuff. You want the cheer, the bright lights, and the festivities. I just would really appreciate it coming after Christmas. That's a 5 day bonus on top of December 1st. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but we got other things going on until then.

I know you've been shopping for and making Christmas presents since July. I know you thrill when stores start talking about holiday sales. I know you've been playing Christmas music in your car since the night after Halloween. I would really appreciate if you kept it on the down low.

Some of us just need Christmas compartmentalized to one month. I'm not a big fan of Halloween, but I'm thankful for it, because I'm pretty sure without it and all its traditions Christmas would start at the end of September.

So just know this Christmas enthusiasts, I tolerate you. I mean don't get me wrong I love Christmas. There's nothing better than going out to pick just the right Christmas tree. I love a good mug of eggnog just like any good woman might. And I'm thrilled that the birth of Jesus gets all this honor and celebration. I just feel like we can all keep that to the month surrounding Christmas, not the month before. Call me the Grinch, but I just think it's way too early.

Sincerly,

A Person Who Wants to Keep Christmas to December

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
