Almost every family takes the time to record or take photos of their children on Christmas. For my family, the photos consisted of gifts under the tree, the basic Christmas tree photo, my little brother and I tearing up the wrapping paper, and one of me blowing out the candles on my birthday cake.

If you haven’t figured it out, I was born on Christmas. Being a Christmas baby is kind of cool, but unless your parents were amazingly thoughtful to make sure you had twice the presents and twice the parties (like mine – thanks, Mom and Dad!), being born on Christmas can be pretty sucky.

1. You have to wait an entire year to be showered with presents.

While the rest of the world gets two days out of the year to open presents, you only get one. I don’t think this is something a lot of people really think about, but it’s pretty annoying.

2. You can forget about ever going out for your birthday.

EVERYTHING! IS! CLOSED!

So yeah, you can’t go anywhere for your birthday. Have fun staying at home. Although, I’ve already made peace with this, and I’d rather stay in my PJ’s all day drinking coffee and eating cake in bed anyway!

3. Birthday parties likely won’t happen.

Good luck getting anyone to show up. Trying to plan a party, on any day in December, is close to impossible.

4. Your friends, your family, and literally everyone will forget to wish you a happy birthday at least once.

Your day of birth has become nothing but an afterthought.

5. When you get ID’d, everyone will point out that you are a Christmas baby, and everyone will ask you if it’s cool to have birthday and Christmas on the same day.

Yes, I am aware my birthday is on Christmas. No, it’s not cool at all.

6. Combined gifts.

Yes, this is a thing, and it only happens to us Christmas babies. It sucks. Don’t be that person. How would you like it if I gave you just one present that counted for both your birthday and Christmas? You’d probably think I’m a terrible person.

7. Bottom line, being a Christmas baby isn’t the greatest.

However, it does show you who your real friends and family are. Those people will never forget to separate the two, and will always make your birthday feel special, even if it’s by simply remembering to send you a “happy birthday” text. But, think about this, you’ll never have to work on your birthday, and that’s a win in my book (unless you work at a hospital, airport, or iHOP… then I’m very sorry!).

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
