1. She & Him: A Very She & Him Christmas; Christmas Party
One half of this duo is Zooey Deschanel, the star of New Girl. In addition to uniquely low voice, most of the songs on this album are acoustic. It has an echoey tone, one that just makes you want to relax and do nothing. When I listen to this album, I feel like I’m hosting an elegant Christmas party with close friends and family under in a decked out home with low lighting.
2. Ella Fitzgerald: Ella Wishes You a Very Swinging Christmas
For me, this is the classic Christmas album, full of traditional renditions of my favorite Christmas songs. Ella Fitzgerald is a #queen and you can imagine her singing these songs by the piano at your Christmas soiree. This album is great for busy Christmas galas, and in my house, is traditionally played on Thanksgiving day, as a kick off to the holiday season.
3. Trap City: Trap Christmas
This album is for those out there hosting a, we’ll say, less adult Christmas party. I tried to play one of these bangers to my mom the other day, and she looked at me, disgusted. This album contains classic Christmas songs remixed with countless drum beats, record scratches, and, of course, beat drops. This album doubles as an early morning pump up and a late night rally.
4. Pentatonix: PTXmas; That’s Christmas To Me; A Pentatonix Christmas Deluxe
I’ll be the first one to admit, my guilty pleasure is listening to acapella renditions and mash-ups of my favorite songs. I was a hard core Glee fan, and still, from time to time, listen to Blaine’s rendition of “Teenage Dream.” So, when I found Pentatonix’s first Christmas album, PTXmas, I was hooked. Their albums go from classic Christmas tunes, to upbeat mashups of winter-esque songs, to original Christmas pieces. These three albums are great if you have a couple hours in the car and you want to be belting notes-- that you absolutely can’t reach-- the whole way.
5. Sia: Everyday is Christmas
This is the newest album discussed in this album, but it does not disappoint. It is comprised of completely original songs, all preformed by the queen herself, Sia. Though I prefer original tunes over some of her creations, there are a couple songs in her album that have become “classic” to me and will remain on Christmas Spotify playlists for years to come. I have played this album while hanging out late at night with friends, and it has a good flow between slower songs to make you feel relaxed, and happy songs that will remind you of the spirit of Christmas.
6. Michael Buble: Christmas Deluxe Special Edition
Michael Buble is one of the artists who I think should dedicate their entire career to Christmas music. I love his voice and the jazzy tone of his, sadly, one and only Christmas album. The whole album reminds me of the music behind rolling credits of a bad ABC Family Christmas movie, but in a very good way. Each song, in some ways, “wraps up” the feeling of Christmas.
