I'm an avid watcher of NBC's "The Voice."
I love learning about each contestant's back story, and, when granted, seeing their excitement when a judge turns for them in the blind auditions. In Season 6 (which is one of the best seasons in my humble opinion) there was this girl with a familiar face that immediately got Shakira, Adam Levine, and Usher to turn around within seconds. She was cool, confident, and vocally solid.
Her name was Christina Grimmie.
Hearing about her tragic death has been quite unsettling for me. Here I am, a (relatively) happy-go-luck 19-year-old who thinks he has his whole life ahead of him, and Christina Grimmie's life has ended abruptly at the young age of 22.
I haven't gotten married, had any children, started my career, or even finished my college education. And she never got a real chance to do most of these things either.
This is why it's so important to seize each day. I'm not saying that planning is a waste of time, but pushing things that you want to accomplish back out of fear or uncertainty is only a disservice to yourself.
What Christina Grimmie accomplished in her time here on Earth may not be great too most, but to me, she accomplished so much. She took a chance on a little site named YouTube and accumulated over 3 million subscribers. She placed third on a nationally-watched television program. Her music has even charted on the Billboard charts.
But beyond this, she followed her dreams. She went for it, even when it wasn't typical, whne it wasn't practical, or when the odds were against her.
And for that, I admire her.
Rest in peace Christina, and thank you for helping me follow my dreams.
Below are three of my favorite performance during her time on The Voice.
