"Queer Eye."
The title alone can come off as a bit standoffish if you have absolutely no idea what the show is about. And I bet, it is not what you think it is.
The Netflix original is a makeover show for, usually, straight men who need a makeover for their life. So, the Fab 5 swoops in and saves the day. The show is split into five different categories; design, fashion, grooming, cooking, and culture. If you are someone who enjoys shows from HGTV, you would absolutely love "Queer Eye."

Another category of people that should watch the show? Christians.
Now, please hear me out.
I believe that this show is the entry into breaking boundaries. As someone who is strong in the Christian faith and I am also a millennial, I understand if you think I am accepting because it is in my culture to accept everyone. Yet, take being a millennial out of the equation. I have never been one to judge someone if they are apart of the LGBTQ+ community. I believe that the Gospel clearly states in Leviticus 19:18, "Do not take revenge on others or continue to hate them, but love your neighbors as you love yourself. I am the Lord." Now, I do not want to make this article just a bunch of Bible quoting.
I want to focus on a certain episode that really hit my heartstrings. Season 2 Episode 1 focuses on a woman named Miss Tammye. She is a black woman in a very small town in Georgia. She is very involved in the church and her community. Her son is also gay. When the Fab 5 decides to meet her, they all began to feel that they may feel judged in the church community due to the fact that they are gay. Bobby, especially, feels this uncomfortableness due to his history with the church. He said, "[Christianity] was my life" and that every Sunday he would beg God to not make him gay. He also states, "Once everyone found out who I was, they turned their backs on me." This is something that I believe, as Christians, we need to end.

One thing I have learned is that homosexuality is not the greatest sin in the Bible. Not to be a Bible verse pusher, but it says so right in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."
See, homosexuality is included in that long list. It's not the first or said to be the most serious. They are all equal. So, why do we treat homosexuality as if it is the greatest sin? For people who are addicts, divorced, whatever the case may be, churches welcome them with open arms. So, why can't we do that for gay people? In "Queer Eye," Tammye makes a comment that is honestly, eye-opening.
"How can I say I love God when I cannot love the ones who are right there next to me?"
Miss Tammye was able to preach the Gospel to the five men. This is something that may have never impacted them, until that point. She told them that they are a part of God's plan and that they were known to God, even in their mother's womb. She created a relationship with these men. That is what ministry is about; making relationships and changing lives to go towards God.

It is not my job, your job, or anyone else's job to convict someone because of their own personal battles. God knows, He sees, and He is there as a guide and a listener. So, stop convicting gay people just because you don't like them. That's not your job. Love them. If God told us anything, it is to love. You may not like it, but that gives you no reason to not accept them as people. They are people. People who breathe, who eat, who sleep, who are capable of love.
So why aren't you?
So, I encourage everyone who reads this post to watch "Queer Eye." Sure, you don't have to watch the entire series, but at least watch Season 2 Episode 1. I hope it changes your perspective. So, let's break down the barriers of hate and start loving one another and building up relationships.
