In our world today, social media is obviously a big deal. Social media is involved in almost everything you do. It is where we find out what's going on in the lives of our favorite actors, singers, and reality stars. It's where we find the latest gossip, but it has also become a place where we have to uphold a certain image. If we are being honest, it is kind of ridiculous.
If you go look in many Twitter and Instagram bios, you might see a Bible verse, a nice quote from Elisabeth Elliot, lyrics from a popular Chris Tomlin song, or just the name "Jesus" or "God". There is nothing wrong with this - don't hear what I am not saying. But this does not make us Christian. There is so much more to the Christian lifestyle than just setting your favorite verse as your Instagram or Twitter bio. You have to be in the word daily. Seeking after the Father's heart and His plan for you.
We are called to live for Jesus and to be servants of the Lord. We are not called to seek man's approval. Galatians 1:10 says it best "For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ." I get caught up in it, too. It's a pride issue. So often I find myself longing to be known as the "public Christian" or "girl who stands up for what she believes in". That's not what it's about. It's about chasing after the Savior of the world and what He wants for you.
He deserves more than our bio. He deserves our whole hearts - every fiber of our being. He deserves us to walk with Him and be ambassadors of His word.
So let's go beyond the Instagram bio. Let's go and make disciples. Have fruitful conversation. Be love. Because that, really, is what we are called to do.
