Remembering Truth During the Election

For the Christian Voter
OLOE Chapel

With the historic 2016 Election Day upon us, I just wanted to share a few thoughts with our Christian voters. The first is:

God has a plan.

I am not going to tell you who to vote for but I will tell you that whatever happens, trust the Lord. He knows the future. We may have moments of confusion or fear when we look at the options our country has for elected leaders. Even in these moments when you may feel desperate, remember He said:

Do not be afraid.

One person can change the world, but so can a small group of driven citizens. No matter who is in office. Thanks to our forefathers, the people of America have Freedom of Speech and Religious Freedom to lean on. Some officials may try to jeopardize these rights, but we, the people of America must advocate for ourselves and stand up to our government. When you vote, consider which candidate will give you and your community the full scope of that Freedom. You do not want to spend the next 4 years fighting to live out your faith. There has been research on the current candidates about their view of specific faith, as part of your discernment, please research these views. Also, when making your decision for who to vote for, some churches urge voters to vote for the lesser of two evils. I urge you to be informed and vote for the candidate that will allow you to have a clear conscious. If you cannot morally vote for a candidate, then do not.

Some folks are discussing not voting due to lack of support for presidential candidates. If this is you, then I would like to ask that you still vote. Leave the Presidential spot blank or do a "Write-In", but there are other people, Constitutional Amendments and causes to vote on. Your vote can make a difference.

I leave you with this thought as the countdown continues:

"Pray, Hope, and Don't Worry" - Padre Pio

My church gave out prayers today that we could say before the Election. Other churches have called for prayer warriors to spend time with the Lord asking for guidance for our country.

Prayer in the most crucial part of this election. Pray for wisdom for voters, fair judgement in the polls, and the future Freedom of our country, One Nation, Under God.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
