I am always amazed to read all the various opinions on these sort of horrible circumstances that take place in our country and our world. The shooting in Orlando, Florida was the deadliest in American history. Not only was it a shooting but it was a shooting at a gay bar. So the real question here is how would God ask us to handle this situation. What really bothers me about this entire situation is the state that our country is currently in. No matter the motive hate is behind the crime. Not just this one but many many other things. I feel like people are simply too quick to judge how, or why, and what caused this. I think God would ask us to pray for the shooter first and foremost. As God can take even the filthiest heart and turn it brand new. These things are hard to understand and I think God doesn't expect us to understand it all. But I know one things I see far to often that God would certainly not want us to do is to start pointing fingers. It is hard to comprehend how anyone could commit such a massive crime and sin. But instead of being bitter, which in turn turns into more anger and violent situations. God would want us to say, How can we prevent this next time? The problem in America is that when people don't like the way others are doing things they are quick to judge. I am guilty myself. But God would want us to turn that around for the better of others.
When we see a mass shooting like this one, or others in the past I think the American people get bitter. They get angry, they get upset, and this only intensifies an already bad situation. It increases hate between people and a domino effect begins to happen where everyone becomes upset about something that originally had nothing to do with them. God encourages us to not be to quick to judge and so in short, I will choose to pray for this man, I will pray for those affected by the shooting, and I will pray for the city of Orlando. Because in a time like this instead of pointing fingers, lets all wrap our arms around those hurting and we will be one step closer to a solution, whereas hate only puts us 10 steps back to right where we began.
