15 Songs Of Faith That Helped Me Through My First Semester Of College

In This Article:

College is exciting, new, challenging and stressful. Some days, it's all those emotions and more all at once. I don't know about you, but music speaks volumes to me and it helps me feel very grounded when things feel hectic in my life.

As I've made it (almost) through the first semester of my college career, I wanted to share some of the songs that have helped me feel at peace when it all feels to be too stressful.

1. "Pursue/All I Need Is You" Hillsong Worship

"Now until forever
Jesus, I surrender
Show me what I don't know
More of You
I'm desperate for Your presence
Longing to be with You
Lead me to a new place
More of You"

"Open my eyes
Let me know more of Your love
More of Your love
Here I will wait
Just for a glimpse of You, God
I'll wait for You, God"

2. "Highs And Lows" Hillsong Worship

"Highs and lows
Lord You're with me either way it goes
Should I rise or should I fall
Even so
Lord Your mercy is an even flow
You're too good to let me go"

3. "Here Again" Elevation Worship

"Can't go back to the beginning
Can't control what tomorrow will bring
But I know here in the middle
Is the place where you promise to be

I'm not enough unless you come
Will you meet me here again
Cause all I want is all you are
Will you meet me here again

As I walk now through the valley
Let your love rise above every fear
Like the sun shaping the shadow
In my weakness your glory appears"

"Not for a minute
Was I forsaken
The Lord is in this place"

4. "Who You Say I Am" Hillsong Worship

"I am chosen, not forsaken
I am who You say I am
You are for me, not against me
I am who You say I am"

5. "Overflow" Red Rocks Worship

"I believe what You said
That You're not done with me
I know You always make a way
I know You've always stayed the same"

"Your promises remain
So I come to You, 'cause...
Lord, my cup is empty
Lord, my cup is empty
Fill me with Your Spirit
To overflow, to overflow"

6. "Let It Happen" United Pursuit

"You're full of life now
And full of passion
It's how he made you
Just let it happen.
And he calls each one of us
By our names to come away
And he whispers to your heart
To let it go and to be alive"

"So take me back
Back to the beginning
When I was young
Running through the fields with you"

7. "Seasons Change" United Pursuit

"Though the music changes, and the songs we sing
We still lift our praises to our loving God and King.
Though the seasons change
Your love remains"

8. "Lean Back" Bethel Music

"I will lean back in the loving arms

Of a beautiful Father.

Breathe deep and know that He is good.

He's a love like no other"

9. "Defender" UPPERROOM

"You go before I know
That You've even gone to win my war
You come back with the head of my enemy
You come back and You call it my victory"

"And all I did was praise
And all I did was worship
And all I did was bow down
And all I did was stay still"

"When I thought I lost me
You knew where I left me
You reintroduced me to Your love
And You picked up all my pieces
Put me back together
You are the defender of my heart"

10. "Extravagant" Bethel Music

"It's extravagant, it doesn't make sense
We'll never comprehend, the way You love us
It's unthinkable, only heaven knows
Just how far You'd go, to say You love us"

"Here is all my love
It's Yours, no conditions
When You pull me close
No, I won't resist it"

11. "Fierce" Jesus Culture

"Before I call

Before I ever cry

You answer me
From where the thunder hides
I can't outrun
This heart I'm tethered to
When every step
I collide with You Like a tidal wave
Crashing over me
Rushing in to meet me here
Your love is fierce"

12. "Hunger" David & Nicole Binion

"This world could never satisfy, the longing in my soul
When all is lost and hope is dry, when all I feel is cold
I'm coming back to Your presence"

"'Cause there's a hunger and a thirst
I am desperate, immerse me
I'm not waiting, not anymore
I need You, Lord, I need You, Lord"

13. "Cover The Earth" Kari Jobe & Cody Carnes

"Let the Spirit rise up, let it break through the walls
And beat down the doors, and crash through the windows
And cover the earth"

"Fear has no choice but to bow
Chains have no choice but to break
Shame has no choice but to leave
In Your presence"

14. "Relentless" Hillsong Worship

"You carry us, carry us

When the world gives way
You cover us, cover us
With Your endless grace

Your love is relentless"

15. "Anchor" Hillsong Worship

"I have this hope
As an anchor for my soul
Through every storm
I will hold to You
With endless love
All my fear is swept away
In everything
I will trust in You
There is hope in the promise of the cross
You gave everything to save the world You love
And this hope is an anchor for my soul
Our God will stand
Unshakeable"

"Your Name is higher
Your Name is greater
All my hope is in You
Your word unfailing
Your promise unshaken
All my hope is in You"

These songs have been on a constant loop for the past three months. I hope you can enjoy them and let the words wash over you and speak into your life, just like I have, especially if you are feeling overwhelmed.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
