A Christian Facing This Election

Facing the reality of what really matters in politics.

It doesn't matter who you are or whether you care about politics or not, if you live in America you are going to be effected by this upcoming election. If you're around my age, you have probably waited twenty-something years looking forward to the first time you get to have a say in who will become the governing leaders of our country. You also may be very upset and confused because of what it has ultimately come down to. Christian or not, the state of this upcoming election can be quite frightful. In the past I didn't pay much thought to politics but now that it is going to more directly effect me, it's time to start to pay attention.

Even if you live under a rock, you're still well aware of the fact that neither option is going to do much good or further God's kingdom in anyway. How absurd is it that we have to pick the lesser of two evils. Some of us may be asking, "hy?" Why God, why have you given us these people out of everyone on the face of this earth? But God talks about submitting to governing authorities in Romans 13.

"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God...for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing."

God knows what we need. He knows, and we need not worry. He has given us these candidates for a reason. God also does not put us into positions that we can not handle. With that said, no matter what happens in this election God will give us the strength we need to live through it. Rather than having the state of mind that you are going to have to follow a leader that you do not see fit for the position, you must think of it as you are following this governing authority because it is what God has called you to do.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not human masters." Colossians 3:23.

Even though we will be undergoing a change in the governing leader here on earth, our God is also here at work on Earth.

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." Matthew 28:18.

Nothing about the change in our earthly leaders will EVER change the fact that God is in control, above all else. Even though we must face the reality that one of these two candidates will become our earthly leader, as Christians our time on earth is only a drop in the ocean of our time in eternity.

"For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come." Hebrews 13:14.

We must set our minds on things above, always. While we face trials here on earth, we know what is waiting for us in heaven. The best thing we can do while we are in this season, a season of waiting for our Lord to return and provide us with everything He has promised, is to pray. Pray for your leaders. Pray that God will give them the strength, wisdom and guidance needed to lead this world.

Do not worry about this election because God's got it. He always has, He always will.

Have a blessed day!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
