eRecently, the students and staff of Christian Brothers University have noticed a new face around campus. We're not sure where he came from, but for the the past month or so, a black and white spotted cat has continuously made an appearance around the residence halls. But our curiosity has not killed the cat, for we have taken it upon ourselves to make him feel welcome and give him a home amongst the students. He's been given a few different names (among them: Ronald, Ronald Reagan, and Frat Cat), and he is always greeted by students coming over to pet him. Essentially, we have taken this cat in and given him our undivided attention and love.
Finals week can be a tough time for most students (I know they freak meowt), but now that we have Ronald, life just doesn't seem as difficult or out to get us.
For some, the Campus Cat is a topic of concern, as he doesn't have real owners or one solidified home. However, students at Christian Brothers are doing everything we can to keep Ronald safe and sound. We feed him and give him water, we give him shelter when the weather is bad, and we play with him and make sure he feels loved. Overall, we're simply trying to treat Ronald the way we treat our own pets.
Ronald has paved the way for some copycats to find their place on CBU's campus as well. Residents of Maurelian Hall have begun to notice a black cat wandering around in the back parking lot. Since we have tried our best to give Ronald everything a pet needs (a name, food, water, shelter, love, etc.), we plan to do the same for this new cat and any others that make an appearance at Christian Brothers University. For example, some of us have already named the new cat Nugget and have tried our best to give him what is necessary for him to live at CBU. As long as he doesn't cross anyone's path, it seems as though he'll fit in perfectly with our campus community.
Ronald isn't your typical cat. Ronald embodies everything that dog lovers love about dogs, while still maintaining cat qualities. He is kind, playful, and loyal (to all of his owners), but he also likes to lay around and do nothing. It's a shame that no one has been able to truly claim Ronald as their own. No one seems to have come looking for him and no one at CBU knows where exactly he came from. There's no telling what this summer has in store for Ronald; hopefully the students on campus will be able to continue taking care of him as we have been during the end of this semester. Whatever may happen to Ronald, we know he'll be happy because he always is.
