It's the Little Things That Make a Huge Difference

When you hear the word Christ-like character, what do you think of? Someone that loves Jesus with all their heart, someone that reads their Bible all the time, someone that prays all the time, someone that goes to church all the time, etc. Well, all those things are examples of Christ-like character, and they are all great examples of it too. But, it does not have to be that noticeable all the time. Some of the little daily things that we do would be considered Christ-like character, and you probably do not even know it.

As a Christian I am constantly striving to be more like Christ everyday, I mean that is what the Bible tells us to do. A lot of Christians try to be more like Christ, but just as much as we try, we also fail too. Sometimes you have a really bad day and just want to be left alone, sometimes someone makes you mad and you want nothing to do with them that day, or maybe you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed and you just are not yourself. When those times come, trust me I know it is hard to have Christ-like character. Typically in those times I just have to stop and think about what the issue is, and then once I narrow it down I stop and pray. I ask God to help me with the difficult day that I am having and ask him to help me be more positive and be a light for him. Just stopping and praying to God, and asking him to help you throughout your day is having Christ-like character.

God knows we are not perfect, I mean he is the one who made every single person, and he did not make anyone perfect. I mean we are not all geniuses, or athletes, or preachers, or teachers or whatever other talents there are. And we are going to make mistakes, I mean the only perfect person is God himself. But, even though we are not perfect, as followers of Jesus we should always try and have more Christ-like character. Like I said they do not all have to be very obvious, some small simple everyday things are all great examples of Christ-like character. For example, just smiling at someone, or telling someone hello, or asking someone how their day is going, giving someone a shoulder to cry on, giving a listening ear to someone who needs to just talk for a minute, giving someone a hug, or just sending a very nice encouraging text.

These are all excellent ways to show Christ-like character, but these things can also just be normal everyday habits. But even the littlest bit of Christ-like character shown can make a huge difference in someone's life. It is the little things that make a huge difference.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
