Christ In Our Relationship

Remember who you are...

Let's talk about relationship goals. Every girl-some guys- has their idea of what relationship goals are. For some their "goals" is a Christ-centered relationship, a very clingy relationship, or maybe just a relationship with a ridiculous amount of love. For me, relationship goals are a relationship that is Christ centered and one that has a ridiculous amount of love. Aside from what our "goals" are, we can't even begin to have someone to look up to for relationship goals if the individual doesn't have a relationship with Christ. If you don't have a one-on-one relationship with Jesus, how can you even begin to have one with Him as a couple?

Personally, I don't mind when a person has relationship goals, but what I do mind is what those "goals" are. If you're constantly posting pictures that have girls on guys backs, or them kissing excessively, or them laying on top of each other, is that really relationship goals?

We tend to label these "goals", and to be brutally honest, the majority of the couples girls are considering as goals, are skinny, privileged white girls with their to hot to trot boyfriends. Ok, yes those a real people, but that is just a stereotype that looks good.

If we are going to admire a couple for their relationship goals though, let's talk about Savannah Soutas and Cole LaBrant, and for a more experienced couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines.

If you know who Cole and Savannah are, then you know they are what most of us consider relationship goals and a couple that I actually consider as well. Savannah and Cole both as a couple and separately have their faith in God. Savannah has a daughter named Everleigh that is the most adorable kid ever. Cole and Savannah are engaged now and Everleigh has taken Cole as her dad and calls him dad, even though he is not her dad. Cole is a perfect father and Savannah is a perfect mother to Everleigh, and as a family, they have an abundance of love for each other and Jesus. If you follow them on social media, you can keep up with them and their little family and their love for Jesus. If you want someone to look up to for "relationship goals", Savannah and Cole would be a great choice.

Now onto the couple that is a little older and more experienced, but is just as loving and in their faith as Cole and Savannah-Chip and Joanna Gaines. Chip and JoJo-as most of us call her- are another couple that I really look up to and hope to have a life like theirs. They have beautiful, respectful children and a relationship and family that is Christ centered. Although on "Fixer Upper"-their hit home improvement show- we don't see much of their faith, in interviews they always discuss it and tell how important it is in their life. Chip and JoJo are a couple that I feel are just an older version of Cole and Savannah, honestly though.

If you want to have relationship goals, first have a relationship with God on your own and then bring that into your relationship with your partner and you will flourish like these two couples have.

In anything remember who you are and remember that Jesus is the first relationship we need.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
