7 Ways We Can Put Christ Back Into Christmas

The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously. Psalm 37:21

It's no secret that Christmas has lost a lot of its true value and has become very superficial and materialistic. It has become revolved around money, greed, and getting...which has us all stressed out as soon as the holiday season hits!

As you may know, Jesus was a very giving man who helped everyone no matter who they were or what their history was. That genuine act of giving and helping is what this season needs, here are some ways you can put the Christ back in Christmas by selflessly helping others and making a huge difference in their lives.

1. Spend your Christmas volunteering.

Helping others starts in your community!

Get involved at your homeless shelters, nursing homes and soup kitchens to see what you can do to help make a memorable Christmas for those in need. I promise you that your kindness will make a HUGE difference to others. It goes to show that even around a busy and expensive time like the holidays, there are still others out there who are willing to sacrifice a cozy Christmas in with their families (pro tip: better yet, get your whole family involved!) to put a smile on someone else's face. That alone could be the best present for everyone!

2. Bake treats for your local first responders.

If you like baking, then you're in luck! Time to show off those baking skills. More than likely, many first responders (cops, firefighters, EMT's, nurses, CO's) will have to work on Christmas. Whip up a batch of cookies, cupcakes, muffins, hot chocolate, or other yummy goodies for these hard workers! These people keep our community safe year round, so let them know how much you appreciate them and their sacrifices.

3. Buy items to donate.

During Christmas time, most schools, homeless shelters and other non-profits collect items that will be distributed or used within the organizations. Check out these causes and see if they have a wish list. Some items may include toys and stuffed animals, while others may need toiletries, clothes, shoes, and socks. Most times, you can buy items and have them shipped directly to organizations who will give them to families in need!

4. Remember those in the hospital or in hospice care.

Get in contact with your local hospitals and hospices and see if you could make small gift baskets for adults/children who are ill, and deliver them with your family!

5. Donate your spare time to neighbors, friends, and family.

Offer free services! These can vary from activities such as helping out a neighbor put up Christmas decorations, babysitting, house sitting, and pet sitting, mowing lawns, cleaning, etc. These things may seem like small gestures to you, but they can make life a whole lot easier for whoever you're helping!

6. Keep your mail carriers in mind.

Our mailmen/women are often overlooked. They are the ones responsible for getting all of our packages, bills, statements, and notices to us all year! Show them your appreciation by making them a treat, giving them a giftcard, etc.

7. Spread love like Jesus did.

Whatever you do, just be sure to do it with love and passion like Jesus did. Something as simple as smiling at strangers or saying, "Hello, how are you?" can make a huge difference in the act of giving back to others!

In conclusion, be selfless, be kind, and show God's love to everyone year round, not just during the holidays. Your actions could make a huge difference in someone's life and they will never forget that.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
