Why I Chose The King's College

I knew as soon as I saw The King's College at my college fair, it was where I was meant to be. Here are a few reasons why:

1) It's not a party school.

All you hear about as high school seniors are college parties. I am not a partier. I've actually never been to those kind of parties. I always wanted to be someone who does great things, not a teenager that goes to parties and gets drunk. So in making my college decisions, a "party" school was not an option. In fact, I didn't want to apply to a secular college for that one reason. In any college you go to there are always going to be kids who like to party, but at King's the students are mature, grown up and know right from wrong. You step on campus and feel like an adult. Students don't party; they're too busy with school, clubs and internships.

2) It's a small college so the professors really get to know you.

I didn't want to just be another student. I knew I wanted a relationship with my professors. In a school with thousands of students and hundreds in a class, the professors don't even know your name. You have to hope and pray you took the right notes or understood what you were learning. At King's there are only 20-25 students in a class and sometimes even less, so as a student you get to build a relationship with your professor. You can talk to them if you need help, and if you don't agree with what they're teaching they are always open for having a discussion.

3) The Dress Code.

Yes, King's has a dress code. I know right now you're wondering why. It's college. You should be able to dress how you want! Well...you're wrong. King's is not only instilling good Christian values, but they are also teaching students how to dress for a job. This school is all about learning how to be a professional entrepreneur and because of that, you have to dress like one. I never liked the idea of going to class in a sweatshirt and jeans. I want to be taken seriously. I've always been taught that the way you dress becomes who you are.

4) You're on your own.

At King's you have an apartment, not a dorm, which means you do your own laundry, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning and everything else that comes with being an adult. I know it's scary, but you learn how to be an adult and not just a college kid. Learning how to do these things now will help when you are really on your own. There's nothing like the feeling of accomplishment and knowing you can do whatever life throws at you.

5) It's in New York City.

College is a crazy, beautiful, amazing whirlwind. It is highly popularized in television and movies, but not necessarily in the most accurate way. Yes, there's frats, dingy dorms, raging house parties—but there's also a lot that people fail to mention.

1. If you thought that you knew how to study, you're wrong.

All of your classes aren't taught every day, so professors aren't on your case constantly about reading and memorizing material. Once you get back that "questionable" first exam grade, you'll kick it into high gear and figure out what works for you

Girl With Bleached Hair
Tumblr

I've been a bleach blonde for over a year now, and let me tell you, it is a lifestyle. More hair appointments, longer showers, and special shampoo. But it is totally worth it!

1. Mentally preparing yourself to convince your hair dresser that white is the way to go.

2. Or the anxiety of what could go wrong by bleaching your hair at home.

3. You could either become a ginger

4. Or a pixie

5. The face you make in the mirror when you take off your towel to unveil the perfect white strands.

6. Taking a million selfies the day you bleached it, because you know your roots will be back in literally 2 days.

7. Having to get bangs or a big chop because your hair is so damaged.

8. Having orange highlights in between touch-ups.

9. Going out for a drink afterwards to debut your updated look.

Despite the struggles, you love your platinum blonde hair! You make sure Instagram knows it, too. You don't need a filter, because the color is flawless by itself!

Finals: just thinking about them gives you anxiety. Only two weeks separate you from summer, but they're the longest of the semester. I've been at this college thing for almost three and a half years, and while I thought that high school was truly the lowest point of my existence, I'm beginning to realize that it was a walk in the park. Like, I miss the days when the biggest white lie I told my parents was my made up excuse about being late for fourth period. These days, the white lies are a tad more complex, and as ashamed as I am to admit it, I've definitely told a few of these.
