Coming home for winter break is great. You get to catch up with friends, family, and can partake in festive activities. However, its all fun and games until you have to start doing chores. And I’m not talking about the easy sweeping, mopping, and taking out the trash chores, I’m talking about the chores that have to be done your parent’s way, no highway option.
Making sure your room is spotless.
It feels as though your room has to be cleaner than the kitchen, but why? Is dinner going to be hosted in my room, are we changing it up and having guest sleep in here and not the Guest bedroom? Answers are needed to fuel your motivation to clean every piece of lint off of your carpet. However, if you give any back talk about cleaning your room, you may wake up to a stocking full of coal on Christmas day.
Sweeping the garage.
This seems like a ridiculous request because you know what carries massive amounts of dirt with it…CARS. Cars, stay parked in the garage.
Dusting
It’s understandable that dust gathers quickly and doesn’t look appealing on the coffee table, but then you remember what needs to be dusted at home outnumbers the amount of furniture you have at school. Suddenly you have became allergic to dust and cleaning in general.
Cleaning the patio/surrounding outside areas
That’s the beauty of having a dorm, no need to worry about what surrounds it because you don’t need to clean it. Parents have you clean the outside of your home because “what if we have guests come over?” This cleaning involves sweeping, weed puling, and sometimes window washing. If you live someplace where it snows then you probably don’t have to worry about this until the summer. But I’ve heard that shoveling snow isn’t the most enticing activity either.
Drying dishes and putting them away
Every college student washes their dishes (or should) but let's be honest, we slack a little bit because we know we won’t get scolded if the dishes airdry and stay out for a few days, maybe weeks. When you come home you remember that you actually have to dry and put the dishes away, you can’t just let them sit in the dish rack like you usually do *sigh*. If you don’t put them away, you’ll never hear the end of it from one of your parentals.
