Choosing Your Future Career

What do you want to do when you get older? What do you want a degree in?

There are so many opportunities that this can be made into an overwhelming question. Most of us don't know about half of the careers or job positions out there. There are so many jobs that are behind the scene or not as popular as others. Every job that each person choices is important, maybe it is just in different ways. Each contribution to a career helps everyone live their day to day lives. So what is the right one for you?

When you are little you always hear the same careers over and over again. Teacher, police officer, firefighter, veterinarian, doctor, actress, etc. The real question is why are these the only careers that kids see pictures of. Yes, these are all great careers and many of them save lives, but why aren't we exposed to other options at young ages? If you asked me what I wanted to be up until this point I would have said every one of those careers at one point and time. There is nothing wrong with that, but there is so much more out there to learn about. As kids enter junior and senior high school they should be opened up to more careers that are out there and all the possibilities that they could potential do one day.

As you enter college you are asked to choose a major and this major is potentially going to lead you into what you want to do for the rest of your life. There is business, biology, mathematics, geography, education, dance, athletic training and many more to choose from. In order to choose a major you sort of need to think about what you want to do in your future career. Many students change their major too so if this is you don't feel bad. At most universities there is a career center, they can be helpful or they might just make you more confused than ever. It is a good idea to job shadow different career opportunities so that you can get a closer look at the day to day life of a person in that career. Make sure to choose something that interests you can that you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life.

As you grow up you talk to other adults in different careers and ask them why they entered that particular career and how they like it. Many of them will be straight up with you and tell you the pros and cons. Lastly they will tell you to do what makes you happy. Some of them will tell you that if they could go back in time and change their career they would. This may make you nervous, but don't be. Just make sure to really look into what you want to do before you fully commit. Yes, there is always time to change your career and start over. Just make sure to do that before it is too late.

Good luck to all of you reading this. I am sure that you will do great things in whichever career choice you decide on. You are all smart and creative in different ways so don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Also don't get discouraged if you don't get a job that you interviewed for... You will get the next one! Most importantly be happy in whatever you choose to do. After all life is short.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo
